Awareness vs. Ego: Shifting the Lens We See Through

Have you ever had a moment where you were convinced someone was upset with you—only to find out later they weren’t thinking about you at all? Maybe they didn’t text back right away, or their tone felt a little off, and suddenly your mind was racing, creating a whole story about what must be going on.
That’s the Ego at work.
The truth is, we all see life through a lens that’s unique to us. That lens has been shaped by our past experiences, beliefs, and even old wounds. What feels like “reality” is often just our perception—colored by the stories we’ve carried with us.
But the moment we realize that things might not always be the way we see them, something shifts. We step into a state of Awareness. This Awareness is powerful because it creates space between what happens around us and how we choose to respond. Instead of reacting emotionally, we’re able to breathe, observe, and respond with clarity.
The Ego, on the other hand, is that inner voice that keeps searching, comparing, and convincing us we’re not enough. It wants us to believe life is a constant battle to be won. But here’s the beautiful thing: Awareness and Ego can’t exist at the same time.
When you choose Awareness—even for a moment—the Ego quiets down. Its chatter fades, and life starts to feel less like a struggle and more like a flow.
So next time you catch your mind spiraling into old stories or assumptions, pause. Notice the space that opens up when you step back. That chatter isn’t who you truly are. Beneath it, there’s a steady, peaceful part of you that has always been whole and complete.
